Diane von Furstenberg at Claridge's

Tuesday 3 August 2010

Last month, Diane von Furstenberg became the latest fashion designer to turn her hand to interior design as she celebrated the launch of a series suites that she designed for London's Claridge's hotel.

Although a veteran of the fashion world, interiors are a relatively unchartered territory for von Furstenberg. She previously designed a collection of homewares with Sears in the 1970's and more recently collaborated on a capsule collection with the Rug Comapany. For Claridge's she has created bespoke fabrics and furniture with her iconic prints and bold colours.

As a long time guest and friend of the Art Deco hotel, Furstenberg said “I wanted to respect the architecture and the formality of the grand hotel room, but at the same time make it relevant to today’s lifestyle... I don’t want the hotel to change, I just want it to be more of a fantasy.”

Furstenberg joins fashion houses Versace, Moschino, Ralph Lauren, Christian Lacroix, Missoni, and Armani who have all designed hotels or even opened hotels in their own name.

And for Furstenberg it doesn't stop there; January 2011 will see the launch of the D.v.F Home collection. A partnership with home furnishings company Springs, the range will include bedding, tableware and bath accessories. See a sneak preview here
