The Targa Giovani, part of
Compasso d’Oro ADI, is awarded every three years to the best design thesis to emerge from an Italian school during that period. More than 400 shortlisted projects for the XXII award will be on display at Rome's museum for contemporary art,
MACRO Testaccio, from 31 May - 25 September this year.

This edition of the award's shortlist includes two projects by students from the
Scuola Politecnica di Design Milan, both supervised by Dutch designer
Huub Ubbens.

| Couture |
The first project,
Couture, is by Hiromi Fukikoshi, Kelli Pearson, Isaac Piñero and Roberto Rossi, and was created during a workshop with Murano glass brand
La Murrina.
Couture is a series of blown glass lights, assembled from mismatched sections darned together in the manner of a mended piece of clothing. Each section has been created in a different furnace, leading to variations in form and consistency.

| The Light Orchestra |
The second,
The Light Orchestra, is an installation by Daniel Simonini with Lorenzo Marini and Fernando Gonzales Sandino. A keyboard of twelve colours allows users to press the keys and activate coloured lights, which echo through the installation space. The piece was exhibited at Ventura Lambrate during Milan design week in April, at a vast disused factory.
