Designs of the Year 2013 at The Design Museum

The Shard by Renzo Piano

The Design Museum has announced the nominees for the sixth annual Designs of the Year award. Selected by a panel of distinguished judges, the 90 nominations across categories including Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Product and Transport include self-adjustable glasses, 3D printers, and the redesign of Exhibition Road, by Dixon Jones, which provides a shared space for pedestrians and cars to travel through.

High-profile nominees include The Shard, designed by Renzo Piano, the Olympic Cauldron by Heatherwick Studio, Microsoft's Windows Phone 8, a non-stick Ketchup bottle developed by the Varanasi Research group at MIT, and the Rain Room by Random International - an exhibition which is currently creating three-hour queues at the Barbican.

Running 20 March - 7 July, the exhibition will display the full 90 nominations, with each category winner and overall winner being announced in April. Design studio BarberOsgerby won the award last year for the design of the London 2012 Olympic Torch.
